Learn Arabic in Fez!
The city is the fourth largest city in
Morocco, after Casablanca, Rabat and Marrakech with a population of around 1 million.
Fez is one of the four so-called "imperial cities" (the others are Marrakech, Meknes and Rabat).
The town of Fez has two differentiated sections: the
Medina and the Ville Nouvelle. The Medina is the name given to the old city inside the city walls. The Medina is divided in two,
Fez el Bali (the old town) and
Fez el Jdid (the new town).
The labyrinthic streets inside the city walls are a show that never ends and the number of shops is overwhelming. The Medina of Fez el Bali is believed to be the largest car-free urban area in the world. It is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
